1. Learning Log: throughout the project, students will be required to respond to weekly questions from discussion/brainstorming sessions in their digital Reflective Learning Log. They will use Kid Blog to record their reflections and feelings about the project. Students will then respond to at least one other classmate each week offering feedback and suggestions. Teacher will monitor student progress and comment when appropriate. Rubric for Reflective Learning Log.
2. Collaborative Learning: throughout the project, students will be collaborating not only with their teammates, but also with other teams at checkpoints along the way. This collaborative practice will culminate in a practice presentation where each group will have an opportunity to practice their presentation before the presentation night.
3. Group and Individual Reflections: a major goal of this project is to develop skills like collaboration and teamwork, toward the end of the project timeline students will complete and individual and team reflection to assess their learning regarding collaboration.
4. Additionally, groups will be writing a letter to a local newspaper explaining their work on the project, the learning, and will include an invite to attend the final presentation night.
5. To assess student progress toward mathematics content standards, students will take a quiz during week 3 of the project to demonstrate their understanding of statistics concepts, vocabulary, and measures of central tendency.
Summative Assessment / Culminating Activity
In the culminating activity, students will utilize their technology proficiency to create a digital presentation that justifies their player choices using mathematics and written communication. This final presentation will be for an audience of peers, teachers, administration, parents, and community sports coaches and managers.
